ARMY GENERAL HONOURS YEWA SOUTH LG CHAIRMAN, HOLGA FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR EDUCATION

The Commander, Corps of Engineers of the Nigerian Army, Major General Shamsudeen Toyin Shafaru, has honoured the Executive Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Barr. Abraham Babatunde Ogunsola, and the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Alhaja Adebimpe Nurat Shekoni, in recognition of their meritorious service and dedication to grassroots development.

The senior Army officer presented award plaques to the duo during a courtesy visit to the Yewa South Local Government Secretariat in Ilaro, Ogun State, while on a homecoming tour of the local government area.

Major General Shafaru, an indigene of Yewa South, explained that the honour was in recognition of the commitment demonstrated by the council leadership in delivering quality services to residents, particularly the less privileged.

According to him, the local government’s developmental direction, especially in the education sector, aligns closely with his personal advocacy for qualitative and affordable education for every child in Yewaland.

“The Chairman and the HOLGA truly deserve these awards based on their tireless efforts towards efficient service delivery to the poor and the downtrodden in society,” the General said.

He noted that the administration’s strong focus on education reflects a leadership that is responsive to the needs of the people and in tune with the demands of modern governance.

As part of his personal contribution to the educational development of the area, Major General Shafaru disclosed that he would deploy funds allocated to his office by the Nigerian Army to renovate classrooms and construct a perimeter fence at Yewa Secondary School.

Describing the gesture as his “widow’s mite,” he expressed hope that both the state and local governments would sustain their commitment to ensuring that every child in Yewaland has access to affordable, quality and accessible education.

Responding, Barr. Ogunsola expressed deep appreciation to the Army General for the recognition and encouragement, assuring that his administration would continue to prioritize education and youth development in the local government.

The Chairman reaffirmed that his administration shares the same passion for education, pointing to several projects already executed in the sector as evidence of the council’s commitment.

He added that the local government has no intention of slowing down, noting that more educational and developmental projects would soon be rolled out as part of a new phase of initiatives planned by the council.

Barr. Ogunsola also used the opportunity to call on illustrious sons and daughters of Yewa South to emulate the example of Major General Shafaru by returning home to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.

He stressed that collective efforts from both government and citizens remain essential for the sustainable growth and advancement of Yewa South Local Government.
