IPOKIA LG CHAIRMAN PRESENTS #10.98 BN 2026 BUDGET, PRIORITISES INFRASTRUCTURE, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, has presented a proposed ₦10,978,723,760 budget for the 2026 fiscal year before the Legislative Council, with a strong focus on infrastructural development and improved living standards for residents across the council area.

Presenting the appropriation proposal at the Legislative Chamber of the council on Thursday, the chairman described the budget as a strategic framework designed to accelerate development, strengthen service delivery, and expand ongoing infrastructural projects across the twelve wards of the local government.

The 2026 proposal, christened “Budget of Infrastructural Development for All,” reflects the administration’s commitment to consolidating achievements already recorded while introducing new initiatives aimed at transforming communities.

Avoseh also reviewed the performance of the 2025 approved budget, which stood at ₦8,226,096,340.

According to him:

₦4,586,160,820,.23 was spent on recurrent expenditure covering salaries, allowances, social benefits and operational costs.

₦196,836.560.50 was allocated to capital projects.

The chairman added that the total expenditure for the year stood at ₦4,782,997,380.76 demonstrating the council’s commitment to maintaining essential services while executing developmental projects across the local government.

Breakdown of the 2026 Proposed Budget :

For the 2026 fiscal year, the local government proposed a total budget of ₦10,978,723,760, which is divided into recurrent and capital expenditures.

Recurrent Expenditure – ₦9,651,773,760

Personnel Cost: ₦5,733,323,760

Other Recurrent Costs: ₦3,918,450,000

Capital Expenditure – ₦1,326,950,000

Sectoral allocations include:

Administrative Sector: ₦394,000,000

Economic Sector: ₦376,700,000

Social Sector: ₦556,250,000

Avoseh explained that the budget was prepared in accordance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) to promote transparency, accountability and adherence to global best practices in public financial management.

Sources of Funding,

the chairman disclosed that the proposed budget will be financed through:

Statutory allocations from the Federation Account, and

Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

He added that the council intends to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and ensure prompt remittance of funds in order to improve efficiency in project implementation.

The Local Government boss expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the progress recorded so far under his administration.

He also acknowledged the continued support of the Ogun State Government, particularly the Executive Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun (CON), for his commitment to grassroots development and support for local government administrations.

The chairman further appreciated the cooperation of the Legislative Council, members of the Executive Cabinet, career officers, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the stability and growth of the council.

He called for sustained collaboration from both the Legislative Council and residents of Ipokia to ensure successful implementation of the proposed budget.

On behalf of the 9th Legislative Council, the Leader of the Council, Hon. Adeyanju Akeem Alamu, commended the Executive Arm for the efforts invested in preparing the budget and outlining developmental priorities for the local government.

He assured residents that the council would undertake a thorough, transparent and objective review of the proposal, including consultations with relevant stakeholders and detailed scrutiny of departmental allocations.

According to him, the legislature remains committed to working collaboratively with the Executive Arm to ensure the timely passage of a people-oriented budget that will enhance development and improve the welfare of residents across Ipokia Local Government.

In his vote of thanks, the Majority Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Opeyemi Akala, commended the chairman, the executive arm and career officers for what he described as a detailed and insightful budget presentation.

He noted that the involvement of various stakeholders reflects a shared commitment to the achievement of developmental goals.

Akala also congratulated the immediate past Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Olawale Wasiu Agbetoku, on his emergence as the new All Progressives Congress (APC) Party Leader in Ipokia Local Government.
