As Ogun State celebrates its Golden Jubilee, the Abeokuta North Local Government has staged a colourful and befitting anniversary event in commemoration of the state’s 50 years of growth, unity and development.
Speaking at the celebration held at Oba Odeleye Park, Ori-Omi, Sokori, Abeokuta, the Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Dr. ‘Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, called on residents of the local government area to continue supporting the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, in order to sustain and expand the gains of good governance across the state.
The event, which featured music, cultural displays and a carnival-like atmosphere, drew large crowds and evoked strong emotions as residents joined in celebrating Ogun State’s remarkable journey over the past five decades.
Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo described the Golden Jubilee as “a moment of reflection, responsibility and renewal,” noting that the milestone provides an opportunity to assess progress made and recommit to sustainable development at both state and grassroots levels.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for creating a level playing field for local governments to thrive, particularly commending the ongoing road construction project from Ilugun to Ago-odo, which he said would significantly improve connectivity and economic activities within the area.
He urged residents to continue supporting the governor to enable him to deliver more dividends of democracy to Abeokuta North.
The council chairman also lauded the unwavering support of youths in the local government, assuring them that his administration’s major focus in 2026 will be on youth development, healthcare delivery and agriculture, as critical drivers of inclusive growth.
In separate goodwill messages at the reception, the APC Chairman in Abeokuta North Local Government, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi Akintunde, alongside a former Local Government Chairman and former Ogun State House of Assembly member, Barrister Habeeb Ajayi, and Hon. Femi Adiro, Full-Time Commissioner I at the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, described the Ogun @ 50 celebration as more than a symbolic milestone.
They noted that the anniversary reflects the state’s measurable progress in economic growth, infrastructural development, education, healthcare delivery and the restoration of public trust in governance, attributing these achievements to the visionary leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun and the equitable distribution of development across the state.
