OGUN LG SERVICE COMMISSION TASKS WORKERS ON PUNCTUALITY, LOYALTY DURING ODEDA LG VISIT

In its continuous effort to strengthen efficiency and accountability at the grassroots, the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, led by its Chairman, Barrister Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, on Wednesday, 5th November 2025, paid an official working visit to Odeda Local Government Secretariat.

The visit, which formed part of the Commission’s statewide inspection and engagement tour, was aimed at assessing the operational performance of the local government workforce and reinforcing discipline and productivity in service delivery.

In her keynote address, Ms Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo,  urged staff to uphold the ethics of public service, emphasizing punctuality and dedication to duty. She cautioned against absenteeism and reiterated the Commission’s resolve to ensure periodic staff postings and fair deployment across local councils.

The Chairman also enjoined revenue officers to exhibit honesty and loyalty in carrying out their duties, while fostering unity and cooperation with the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, whom she described as “the governor of the grassroots.”

Acknowledging the funding limitations currently faced by the Commission, Ms  Onabanjo explained that regular staff training might not be held as frequently as desired. She therefore encouraged local governments to organize in-house training programmes to enhance staff capacity and professional development.

She further directed all staff to strictly adhere to service regulations, including the observance of annual leave procedures and proper handover protocols to designated officers.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Engr.  Olanike Olawunmi Ogunbona, FNSE, expressed appreciation to the management and staff of Odeda Local Government for the warm reception accorded the visiting team.

Welcoming the delegation, the Executive Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Dr. Waliat Folasade Adeyemo, commended His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, for creating an enabling environment that supports efficient governance at the local level.

Dr. Adeyemo reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to improving staff welfare and productivity, noting that efforts have been made to maintain a conducive working environment within available resources to ensure effective service delivery.

Also speaking, the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mr. Oluwole Fateru, lauded the Commission for its positive disposition towards staff welfare, discipline, and adherence to service rules. He restated that the Commission’s core priorities remain effective service delivery, prudent resource management, good governance, and the holistic development of local communities

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Director of General Services and Administration, Mr. Oyekan Johnson, expressed profound gratitude to the Commission’s leadership for their dedication to the continuous growth and development of the local government service.

The visit also featured interactive sessions between the leadership of the Commission, political officeholders, the Head of Local Government Administration, and Heads of Departments, during which key operational issues and strategies for improving service delivery were discussed.
