In a bid to strengthen grassroots administration and improve service delivery, the management of Yewa South Local Government Area has organized a one-day in-house capacity-building training for its workforce, in line with the directive of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission.
The training coincided with the maiden meeting of the newly posted Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Alhaja Sekoni Adebimpe Nurat, with the local government staff.
In her opening address, Alhaja Sekoni expressed appreciation to the entire workforce for their commendable performance during the recent visit of the Local Government Service Commission. She urged all staff members to remain proactive, disciplined, and dedicated in the discharge of their duties.
According to her, “Our collective goal is to build a disciplined, ethically acculturated, and professionally grounded local government service that can stand as a model across Nigeria.”
She further encouraged participants to take full advantage of the training as an opportunity to expand their knowledge base and enhance operational efficiency across all cadres of service.
The Director of General Services and Administration, Mr. Adeniyi Fatai, facilitated a session on staff regulations and extant laws guiding public service operations. He emphasized adherence to the code of conduct, proper observance of pension regulations, and compliance with established civil service rules.
Similarly, the Internal Auditor, Mr. Sunday Sobola, anchored a session on the Financial Memoranda, focusing on revenue generation and management, fund application, expenditure control, investment of funds, and accountability mechanisms within the local government system.
The training concluded with remarks from the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), represented by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Tijani Yetunde. She commended the management for prioritizing staff development and assured that the union remains committed to upholding ethical standards and delivering quality services consistent with the core values of the local government service.
The capacity-building initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission to ensure improved efficiency, professionalism, and ethical excellence across all tiers of local administration in the state.
