Hon. Idris Olalekan Kusimo, the Executive Chairman, Ifo Local Government, has flagged off the free distribution of insecticide-treated nets to prevent malaria in the Council Area.
The programme, held at the Local Government Secretariat, on Tuesday 19th November, 2024 demonstrates the Chairman's commitment to improving public health and wellbeing.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Kusimo, said that Malaria is a significant public health concern which accounts for significant percentage of deaths among pregnant women and children under five years old.
According to the Council boss, his administration is committed to taking proactive measures to prevent its spread.
"The distribution of insecticide-treated nets is a crucial step towards achieving this goal, and we are proud to partner with relevant stakeholders to make this initiative a success,"--- the Chairman declared.
The Council helmsman seized the opportunity to commend the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, the Executive Governor of Ogun State who has spared no resource to position Ogun State at the top echelon of health indices in Nigeria.
He however, enjoined the residents of the State to avail themselves of the opportunity of the free nets by not only ensuring that they collect their nets at the designated distribution sites, but more importantly, ensure they use the nets as recommended in order to maximise its benefits.
Hon. Kusimo also seized the opportunity to assure the people of the Local Government of his administration's commitment to the provision of qualitative and affordable health care system which is a key part of his campaign promises and mantra of his administration.
The Key highlight of the programme was the decoration of the wife of the Chairman, Alhaja Shakirat Kusimo as the Net Advocate for Ifo Local Government.
In her acceptance speech, the Council's Chairperson who noted that prevention remains the best, safest and cheapest approach to eliminating malaria in the Council Area, pledged to be a role model while using her time, talent and resources to canvas for the proper use of the insecticide treated nets.
In his welcome Speech, Dr Olalekan Oke, the Health Secretary, Ifo Local Government Health Authority (LGHA), expressed his appreciation to the State government, through the Ministry of health and the Ogun State Primary Health Board as well as the State Malaria Elimination Programme (SMEP), and Society for Family Health (SFH) who are key partners of the programme.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Kunle Kazeem representing SMEP, and Ms. Faith Ezeh who represented SFH, emphasised the benefits of the nets and why people need to use them appropriately to achieve the desired result.
Dignitaries at the event include the Vice Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Hon. Abibat Ojo, elected Councillors, the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Fatai Ogundele and other principal career officers of the Local Government. Others include the Babaloja General of Ifo, Chief W. A. Abdullateef, Chief (Mrs.) Taiwo Akinsola, the Iyaloja General, Sheikh AbdulWasiu Odebode representing the Chief Imam of Ifo, various security agencies amongst many other dignitaries.
