Anti-corruption advocates applaud President Tinubu's suspension of Emefiele and Bawa, call on him to expand anti-graft campaign to Malami, Sirika, Farouk, and others.

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC), along with a coalition of anti-corruption groups, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for suspending the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa. They have also called for an investigation into other prominent officials allegedly involved in corrupt practices, including the former Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Hadi Sirika, and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Saadiyya Umar Farouk.

The coalition, consisting of over 107 anti-corruption groups, commended the President for his commitment to tackling corruption and upholding the principles of good governance. They believe that the decision to suspend the CBN Governor and EFCC Chairman was made in the best interest of the nation and signifies a significant stride towards ensuring accountability, transparency, and the restoration of public trust in key institutions.

The groups urged the President to ensure that the investigations into the alleged misconduct are conducted with the utmost thoroughness and impartiality, emphasizing the need for due process to be followed and justice to be served. They believe that this will not only set a strong precedent but also demonstrate the President's dedication to establishing a fair and just society.

Furthermore, the coalition emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive overhaul of the EFCC as corruption has deeply permeated the system, compromising its effectiveness in combating economic crimes. They urged President Tinubu to initiate wide-ranging reforms within the EFCC, strengthen its internal mechanisms, and equip it with the necessary resources to carry out its mandate effectively.

The groups implored President Tinubu not to relent or be deterred in his fight against corruption, as it has been a major impediment to the country's progress, hindering economic growth, exacerbating social inequality, and eroding public trust. They believe that taking decisive action against corrupt practices demonstrates his firm commitment to advancing Nigeria and ensuring a brighter future for all its citizens.

Lastly, the coalition pledged its unflinching support to President Tinubu in his quest to rid the nation of corruption. They stand ready to collaborate with the government in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance, hoping to build a Nigeria where justice prevails, opportunities abound, and the rule of law reigns supreme.
