......Onabanjo highlights professional development, recognition of excellence and renewed commitment to effective grassroots service delivery

The Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, Ms Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, has assured stakeholders and participants of an exciting, impactful and memorable 2026 Ogun State Local Government Service Week, promising a programme that will celebrate professionalism, promote excellence and strengthen service delivery across the local government system.

Onabanjo gave the assurance ahead of the two-day event scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, and Thursday, November 12, 2026, with a theme, “From Experience to Excellence: Strengthening Service Delivery at the Grassroots.”

She described the annual Service Week as an important platform for reflecting on the achievements of the local government service, sharing professional knowledge, encouraging innovation and renewing the commitment of public servants to efficient, transparent and people-oriented administration.

According to her, the Commission has put arrangements in place to ensure that this year's celebration goes beyond a ceremonial gathering to deliver meaningful engagement, inspiration and renewed motivation for personnel across the local government service.

Onabanjo noted that the theme underscores the importance of building on the wealth of experience and institutional knowledge within the service while embracing improved work ethics, professionalism, innovation and modern administrative practices capable of producing better results for the people.

She explained that local government remains a critical institution in Nigeria's governance structure because of its direct relationship with communities and its responsibility for supporting grassroots development and the delivery of essential public services.

The Commission Chairman expressed confidence that the 2026 Service Week would provide a valuable opportunity for serving officers, experienced administrators and other stakeholders to exchange ideas on strengthening institutional capacity, improving performance and building a more responsive local government service in Ogun State.

A major highlight of the first day will be a public lecture scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at The Crescent Muslim Professional Hall, Leme, Abeokuta. The guest lecturer, Dr. Bayo Ilawole, Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, is expected to share professional insights on effective grassroots administration, institutional development and strategies for improved public service delivery.

The second day, Thursday, November 12, will feature a Red Carpet event, followed by the Award of Excellence and Gala Night at DLK Events Center, Abiola Way, Abeokuta.

The Award of Excellence and Gala Night are scheduled to commence at 2:00 p.m.

The award ceremony will recognise outstanding contributions, dedication, discipline, professionalism and exemplary performance within the local government service.

It is also expected to encourage healthy competition among personnel and reinforce the principle that commitment to duty and excellence in service deserve recognition.

Onabanjo emphasised that recognising outstanding public servants is an important way of motivating the workforce, promoting accountability and inspiring others to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct.

She further expressed optimism that the Service Week would attract distinguished government officials, public servants, serving and retired local government administrators, heads of ministries, departments and agencies, traditional rulers, labour representatives, professional bodies, community leaders and other stakeholders committed to the development of Ogun State.

The Chairman reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to strengthening the local government service through professionalism, capacity development, improved administrative standards and the promotion of a work culture that places the needs of the people at the centre of public service.

She called on local government personnel and other invited stakeholders to participate actively in the programme, noting that the success of the Service Week would be measured not only by the quality of the events but also by the positive lessons, renewed dedication and practical improvements participants take back to their respective offices.

Onabanjo expressed confidence that the 2026 Ogun State Local Government Service Week would set a high standard for future editions, leaving participants inspired and reinforcing a shared determination to transform experience into excellence for the benefit of communities across the state.

The 2026 Service Week is therefore expected to serve as a significant milestone in the Commission's continuing efforts to promote a competent, motivated and result-oriented local government workforce capable of responding effectively to the aspirations of the people of Ogun State.
