NIS OFFICERS PAY COURTESY VISIT TO EWEKORO LG

....... Registration Of Foreigners Is a Directive From the Governor, not Hostility -- says Hon. Adesina 

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government, Hon. Adesina Sikiru Adisa, as part of its familiarization visit , following the deployment of new officers to the council area.

Leading the delegation, Inspector Adenekan Comfort S. expressed gratitude to the Chairman for receiving the team despite his demanding schedule. She emphasized the need for a conducive and fully furnished office space to enable the newly posted officers perform effectively.

Inspector Adenekan revealed that more than 200 ECOWAS citizens have been registered within her short stay in Ewekoro LG, noting that the figure could have been higher. Many foreign nationals, she said, fail to present themselves for data capturing, compelling NIS officers to move from place to place to conduct registrations.

She assured the council leadership of the Service’s commitment to intensify the registration of foreigners in compliance with the directive of the Ogun State Governor.

Welcoming the officers, the Executive Chairman reaffirmed the local government's support for the Nigeria Immigration Service. He stressed the importance of proper documentation of foreign nationals residing within the area.

According to him, “This is just to know their identity, not that we don’t want them here. His Excellency has directed that all foreigners must be registered in our various local governments.”

Hon. Adesina noted that the NIS will be included in the upcoming security summit involving other security agencies and stakeholders, aimed at formulating strategies to address emerging security challenges in the council.

The Chairman further assured the immigration team that the council will provide them with a befitting office to aid their operations.

Also speaking, the Acting Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Sanitarian Ige Samuel, appreciated the officers and commended their timely arrival. He noted that the local government is currently facing various security challenges, and the presence of the NIS will play a crucial role in tackling these issues.

Sanitarian Ige said, “Your coming at this time is strategic. With the security challenges we are experiencing, your agency will play a major role in addressing this menace.”
