......Security Is Everyone’s Responsibility; All Hands Must Be on Deck” — Chairman
The Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government, Hon. Adesina Sikiru Adisa, has called for collective vigilance and stronger collaboration among security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to sustain peace and security across the local government.
The chairman made the call at a Peace and Security Meeting held at the Local Government Secretariat, Itori, where he emphasised that maintaining peace and protecting lives and property must be a shared responsibility.
Hon. Adesina commended the security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders for their contributions to maintaining peace and tranquillity in Ewekoro Local Government.
He, however, stressed that government alone could not guarantee security without the active participation of the people.
He urged the leadership of the Community Development Committee (CDC) and Community Development Associations (CDAs) to mobilise residents and encourage them to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
"Everybody must play their role in securing our communities. We should not leave the responsibility to government and security agencies alone. However, we must exercise restraint and act responsibly in our efforts to maintain peace," the chairman stated.
He further warned residents against withholding vital security information until situations deteriorate, urging them to report suspicious activities and potential threats promptly to the appropriate authorities.
"We must not wait until a situation gets worse before reporting it to the relevant authorities. Timely information is essential to preventing threats and nipping security challenges in the bud," he added.
Addressing violence during electioneering periods, Hon. Adesina cautioned against the tendency to attribute every act of violence to political rivalry. He observed that some individuals might exploit political campaigns to settle personal scores and warned residents against allowing political parties to become covers for criminal activities.
He urged the public to remain vigilant before, during and after elections, stressing the need to distinguish genuine political activities from criminal conduct.
In response to requests by security agencies, the chairman pledged his administration's support for improved security operations and service delivery.
He promised to provide office for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Itori Command, to facilitate the establishment of a driver's licence registration centre, thereby addressing the difficulties residents face in accessing the service.
He also assured the FRSC and Amotekun Corps of the council's commitment to providing motorcycles to enhance their operational efficiency.
In addition, he promised to make the Local Government's ambulance available to the FRSC whenever its services are required.
Speaking at the meeting, the Olu of Itori, Oba (Dr.) Abdul-Fatai Akorede Akamo, commended Hon. Adesina for his administration's developmental strides, describing his performance as remarkable.
The traditional ruler declared: "Of all the chairmen that have governed this Local Government, there has never been any chairman like ESKAY in terms of performance."
Oba Akorede also praised the security agencies for their professionalism and effective policing, urging them to sustain their efforts in safeguarding lives and property.
The monarch equally applauded the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his administration's infrastructural and economic development initiatives, particularly those aimed at strengthening the state's status as an industrial hub.
He specifically mentioned the airport and other major projects as significant contributions to the state's development.
In his vote of thanks, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Aladeselu Adewale (JP), expressed appreciation to the Olu of Itori for honouring the meeting despite his busy schedule.
He also thanked the security agencies and other stakeholders for their participation and solicited their continued cooperation and support in maintaining peace across the council area.
The meeting featured security situation reports from various security agencies and committee members, providing an opportunity to review existing challenges and strengthen cooperation among stakeholders.
