....Diya commissions remodelled legislative chamber, markets and mini sports arena.
Odogbolu Local Government Chairman, Hon. ( Dr.) Babatunde Oyetola Diya, has commissioned a number of infrastructural and development projects across the Local Government Area as part of activities marking the 22nd month of his administration.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Friday, September 18, 2026, attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders, legislators, government officials, market men and women, religious leaders and other stakeholders who gathered to witness the commissioning of projects aimed at improving infrastructure and the quality of life of residents.
Among the major projects commissioned was the newly reconstructed and remodelled Odogbolu Local Government Legislative Chamber, which has been equipped to provide a more conducive environment for legislative proceedings and effective representation.
The Chairman also commissioned a modern Sports Arena located along the Federal Government College Road, Odogbolu. The facility is expected to promote sporting activities, encourage talent discovery and provide youths with a productive platform for recreation and development.
Also commissioned were six units of lock-up shops and six units of open-market stalls at Obun-Odo Market, Odogbolu.
Speaking at the occasion, the Minority Leader representing Odogbolu State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, commended the Chairman for providing the Legislative Council with a befitting and conducive environment to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
Adeleye expressed appreciation for the attention given to the legislative arm, noting that the new facility would improve the working environment of lawmakers and contribute to effective legislative activities.
The Leader of the Odogbolu Local Government Legislative Council, Hon. Akeem Tunde Adesoye, also commended members of the Legislative Council for maintaining a cordial working relationship with the Executive Chairman and members of the Local Government Executive.
He said the cooperation between the legislative and executive arms had contributed to the implementation of various development initiatives across the Local Government Area.
Also speaking, the Member of the House of Representatives representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, Hon. Olufemi Ogunbanwo, congratulated Chairman Diya on the projects executed by his administration.
Ogunbanwo also spoke on the 2027 political landscape, expressing his position that the Ogun West Senatorial District should be given the opportunity to produce the next Governor of Ogun State, describing the demand as an issue of equity and fairness.
He further called on political stakeholders to support the candidates and political interests he advocated ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Diya expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his leadership and support for Local Government Councils across the state.
The Chairman said the state government's policies on Local Government autonomy, infrastructure and development had provided the necessary platform for his administration to translate its plans into tangible projects.
“Your consistent policies on Local Government autonomy, infrastructure and development have given us the platform to translate our plans into visible and tangible results across Odogbolu Local Government Area.”
Diya also appreciated the traditional rulers, Baales, party leaders, political stakeholders, appointees, Heads of Departments, Directors, Special Advisers, aides, market men and women and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of his administration.
According to him, peace and cooperation remained essential to the development of the Local Government Area, adding that the support of traditional and community leaders had contributed significantly to the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed across their various domains.
The Chairman listed several projects and initiatives undertaken by his administration across the 15 wards of the Local Government Area.
They include the renovation of the Chairman's Office, Ante-Room and Conference Room, including the provision of furniture and equipment; reconstruction and remodelling of the Legislative Chamber into a modern facility; and installation of a solar-inverter renewable energy system to provide power for the Local Government Secretariat.
Other projects include the procurement and installation of three prepaid meters at the Secretariat; refurbishment of offices, drilling of a new borehole and construction of six units of toilets at the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA).
The administration also procured and installed 437 solar-powered streetlights with 429 poles, illuminating roads from Odogbolu town to Aiyepe and improving visibility and security at night.
Solar-inverter-powered boreholes were also provided at Iperin, Ibefun, Imodi, Abatiwa, Emuren, Igbile, Atiba, Ibido-Ogbo and Ibido.
In the health sector, the administration provided Primary Health Care materials and equipment across health facilities and enrolled 500 vulnerable residents in the Local Government under the “Iwosan Tunde” initiative.
The Chairman further listed the rehabilitation of Christ African Church Primary School, Odogbolu; Imoru Community Primary School; St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School, Ala; St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School, Imosan; St. Matthew Anglican Primary School, Imodi; and Irepodun Primary School, Idagbo-Ogbo, with 162 units of desks and benches provided.
In the area of commerce, the administration reconstructed lock-up shops and open-market stalls at Obun-Odo Market, Odogbolu, while additional lock-up shops were constructed at Okun-Owa, Ososa, Idowa and Omu markets.
The administration also constructed the modern Sports Arena along Federal Government College Road, Odogbolu, and undertook refuse evacuation at Imoru and Oke-Owa.
Concluding his address, Diya said the completed projects belonged to the people of Odogbolu and urged residents to take ownership of the facilities by protecting them from vandalism and maximising their use for the benefit of the community.
Commissioner Commends Administration
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, represented by Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, commended Chairman Diya for his commitment to grassroots development.
He said the projects commissioned reflected the administration's focus on delivering infrastructure with direct impact on the people.
The Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Odeyemi Tunji Idowu, in his vote of thanks, appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for his efforts towards the development of the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State.
He also commended Chairman Diya for his commitment to the development of Odogbolu Local Government.
As part of activities marking the occasion, a football match was played between Team Monster and the Odogbolu Local Government Team as a test run for the newly commissioned Sports Arena.
At the end of the match, the winning team received a cash prize of ₦750,000, while the second-placed team received ₦250,000.
Also , Boxing formed part of the activities of the commissioning of the Sports Arena, while cultural troupe display was also part of the highlights of the day.
