........Beneficiaries hail Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative as traders cash in on crowd
The Ewekoro Local Government Secretariat in Itori was agog as indigenes and residents from the ten wards of the council area gathered to receive ATM cards under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme.
The distribution exercise, held at the Ewekoro Local Government Secretariat, formed part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to provide financial assistance to vulnerable households across the country.
Beneficiaries were selected from the National Social Register (NSR), a Federal Government database created to identify poor and vulnerable households.
Their eligibility was further confirmed through the verification of their National Identification Numbers (NIN), Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) and other approved government records to ensure that only qualified beneficiaries received the intervention.
The exercise attracted beneficiaries from all ten wards of Ewekoro Local Government, who patiently underwent the required verification procedures before collecting their ATM cards.
Under the programme, each qualified household is entitled to ₦75,000, subject to the approved payment schedule.
Although the initiative is a Federal Government programme, the Community and Social Development Department of Ewekoro Local Government played a supportive role by coordinating logistics and ensuring the smooth and orderly conduct of the exercise.
The council also provided light refreshments for beneficiaries as part of its commitment to the welfare of residents.
Speaking with the Information Crew, the Head of Operations of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, Mrs. Eniolawun Oluwakemi , commended the beneficiaries for their patience and cooperation, which she said contributed to the hitch-free conduct of the exercise.
She advised the beneficiaries to use the financial support judiciously, particularly those interested in petty trading.
“For those who engage in petty trades, they can start something with it. Those who want to use it for household upkeep should spend it on things that will benefit the family. They should not squander or mismanage the money,” she said.
Mrs. Olawunmi also disclosed that more ATM cards would soon be printed and distributed to qualified persons captured in the National Social Register who were yet to benefit from the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme.
Also speaking with the Information Crew after the exercise, the Director of Community and Social Development, Ewekoro Local Government, Mrs. Moyinoluwa Adewuyi, expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Adesina Sikiru Adisa, for his support towards the successful conduct of the programme.
She particularly commended the chairman for providing refreshments and a conducive environment for both the Federal Government officials and beneficiaries.
Mrs. Adewuyi said she was impressed by the large turnout, noting that appreciable number of beneficiaries received their ATM cards during the exercise.
She expressed hope that the beneficiaries would appreciate the government’s gesture and make productive use of the financial assistance.
Meanwhile, the large turnout at the council secretariat also created an opportunity for local traders and small-scale vendors, who took advantage of the crowd to engage in brisk business, selling food, drinks and other wares to participants throughout the programme.
