Manchester United marked their return to UEFA Champions League football in emphatic fashion on Thursday night, sweeping aside Sabah FC 4–0 at Old Trafford in a dominant display that delighted the home supporters.

The Red Devils took control of the encounter with three goals before half-time and maintained their authority after the break, completing a comfortable victory over the Azerbaijani side.

Manchester United approached the contest with attacking purpose, moving the ball confidently and putting Sabah under sustained pressure.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when Matheus Cunha converted from close range following a dangerous delivery into the box.

The goal settled United’s nerves and opened the door for a commanding first-half performance.

Bruno Fernandes doubled Manchester United’s advantage in the 42nd minute, calmly finishing an opportunity created by the home side’s intelligent attacking movement.
United struck again just before the interval. Benjamin Å eÅ¡ko raced through on goal and showed composure to round the goalkeeper and finish into an empty net, sending the hosts into the dressing room with a 3–0 lead.

Sabah had shown flashes of attacking intent but struggled to contain United’s pace, movement and individual quality.

Manchester United continued to control proceedings after the restart, creating further opportunities while limiting Sabah’s threat.
Lisandro Martínez added the fourth goal in the 68th minute, reacting quickest during a goalmouth scramble to complete the scoring.

With the contest effectively decided, United managed the remainder of the match professionally, securing a clean sheet and an impressive opening result in their Champions League campaign.

Sabah’s Historic European Appearance

Although the result was disappointing for the visitors, Sabah’s participation at Old Trafford represented a significant moment in the club’s history.

The Azerbaijani side’s Champions League appearance offered valuable experience on one of European football’s most famous stages, even as they faced the considerable challenge of Manchester United’s quality and experience.

What Lies Ahead for United?

The 4–0 victory gives Manchester United an encouraging start to their Champions League campaign and provides an early boost to their confidence and goal difference.

However, the club will be aware that tougher challenges lie ahead as the competition progresses. The immediate task will be to build on this performance and maintain consistency in both domestic and European football.
