The Abeokuta North Local Government has inaugurated a special Task Force to enforce environmental health and sanitation regulations across the local government area, as part of renewed efforts to safeguard public health and promote a cleaner, safer community.
In a statement signed by the Council's Director of Information, Mrs Olalekan Olasunkanmi , under the new directive, all residential buildings within the council area are required to have functional toilet facilities. Property owners and occupants are hereby reminded that failure to provide and maintain proper sanitation facilities constitutes a violation of environmental health regulations and will attract sanctions.
In addition, livestock owners are strictly prohibited from allowing their animals to roam freely in public spaces. All livestock must be confined to designated areas to prevent environmental pollution, destruction of property, traffic obstruction, and threats to public safety.
The Council has made it clear that defaulters will face strict penalties, including fines and possible prosecution in accordance with existing laws.
The Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government , DR. 'Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo emphasized that the enforcement drive is not punitive but a necessary step toward improving environmental standards, preventing disease outbreaks, and ensuring orderly development within the local government area.
Residents are therefore strongly advised to comply with the directive and cooperate fully with the Task Force to avoid sanctions.
