The Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government, Hon. Adesina Sikiru Adisa, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former First Lady of Ogun State and revered matriarch, Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, describing her demise as a great loss to Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of the government and good people of Ewekoro Local Government Area, Hon. Adisa said he received the news of Mama Lucia’s passing with profound sadness and a heavy heart.
Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, the devoted wife of the late Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, the first civilian Governor of Ogun State during the Second Republic, passed on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the remarkable age of 100 years.
According to the Ewekoro Local Government Chairman, Mama Lucia lived a life distinguished by exemplary grace, unwavering faith, humility, strength, and selfless service to her family, community, and humanity. He noted that her life remains a model of moral uprightness and compassion worthy of emulation.
Hon. Adisa further acknowledged her enduring legacy as the mother of Barr. (Ms) Olubukunola Onabanjo, the Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, whose leadership and service continue to reflect the values instilled by her late mother.
“The passing of Mama Lucia is not only a personal loss to the Onabanjo family but a monumental loss to Ogun State. Her legacy of love, discipline, and service will continue to inspire generations across our dear state,” the Chairman stated.
The Executive Chairman extended heartfelt condolences to the entire Onabanjo family, the Chairman and members of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, His Excellency, the Governor of Ogun State, the Ogun State Government, and all who mourn the transition of the revered matriarch.
While mourning her departure, Hon. Adisa urged the people to take solace in the fact that Mama Lucia lived a long, fulfilled, and impactful life, for which gratitude should be given to Almighty God.
He prayed that God grants her gentle soul eternal rest in perfect peace and comforts, strengthens, and upholds the bereaved family and the entire Ogun State community during this difficult period.
