CITY CRUSH UNITED 3-0 IN ONE-SIDED DERBY

 By Olopade Sakiru

Etihad Stadium, Manchester – Sunday, September 14, 2025

Manchester City outclassed their city rivals Manchester United with a commanding 3–0 victory at the Etihad Stadium, underlining their dominance in this season’s first Manchester Derby.

Phil Foden opened the scoring in the 18th minute, rising highest to meet Jeremy Doku’s pinpoint cross.

The Belgian winger was in inspired form, tormenting United’s backline throughout the evening and finishing with three assists to his name.
City tightened their grip after the break. Erling Haaland doubled the lead in the 53rd minute with a trademark finish after another clever delivery from Doku.
The Norwegian striker then sealed the win in the 68th minute, capitalising on United’s defensive lapse to fire home his second of the game and City’s third goal.

While Pep Guardiola’s men dazzled with fluid attacking football and relentless pressing, United struggled to find any rhythm. Their midfield was repeatedly overrun, and chances in front of goal were scarce.
The defeat leaves serious questions for United’s management, particularly regarding defensive organisation and attacking creativity.

Speaking afterwards, Guardiola hailed his side’s performance: “The connection between Doku, Foden and Haaland was exceptional. We controlled the match in all areas.”
Across town, the United camp admitted frustration, citing poor concentration and a lack of cutting edge as key factors in the loss.
