NEW LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL LEADER ELECTED IN YEWA SOUTH LG

......As Newly sworn-in leader, Hon Lukman Ibrahim vows to use his good office to uphold the tenets of democracy.

Four months after the death of its former leader, Yewa South Local Government's Legislative Council has elected Hon. Lukmon Ibrahim from Ilaro Ward III to be its new leader of the house.

A quorum of nine legislators, of the ten constitutionally available, voted in a special legislative session  to choose the new leader of the house at the Local Government Secretariat in Ilaro on Tuesday, 12th August.

Six out of the nine Honourable Councilors voted for the new Leader, while three honourables cast their votes for Honourable Asorowo Isah who was the only contender.

In a twist of events, a new Chief whip also emerged in the session as Hon. Ogunsola Olukunle was elected unopposed to replace the former Chief Whip, Hon. Asorowo Isah, who vacated his post to contest for the leadership position of the house.

According to the Executive Chairman of the local government, Barr. Abraham Babatunde Ogunsola, electing a new Leader of the house became imperative in order to fulfill the demands of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.

He said "Yewa South Local Government is only following the dictates of the Constitution. Once a position as big as this is vacated by death, the onus is on the honourable councilors to choose a new leader for themselves.

"I am so happy democracy prevailed. This is a testament to the fact that there is a democratic future for the local government, the state and Federal Republic of Nigeria."

In his address, the newly sworn-in Leader, Hon. Lukman Ibrahim, swore to use his good office to uphold the tenets of democracy and give utmost support to the Executive Arm of the Government.

He appreciated  the Governor of Ogun State, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON, the Executive Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Hon. Abraham Babatunde Ogunsola, fellow honourables and party stakeholders for the opportunity to serve , while  promising the council members that he will lead in the right direction.
