BARR. OGUNSOLA PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR CREATION OF SPECIAL PARLIAMENTARY SEATS FOR WOMEN

The Executive Chairman Of Yewa South Local  Government, Hon.(BARR.) Abraham Babatunde Ogunsola, has vowed to give total support to the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) as they are campaigning to win more seats for women in Nigeria's political spectrum.

The Chairman made the statement through his representative, The Secretary to the Local Government, Alh. Aiyelagbe Abdul Jabar, at the town hall meeting organized by NILOWV for women of Ogun West Senatorial District at the Oronna Hall in Ilaro on Friday, 13th June,2025.

He said "it is high time women in Nigeria rise up and compete doggedly for their well deserved placements in the political system. Women must seize the opportunity of the ongoing constitutional amendments  to carve a permanent niche for themselves  in the scheme of things."

"What NILOWV is doing across the country is not novel, but it is highly noble, considering the tides of time. Their sense of duty is enviable, not many will leave the comfort of their homes for the general well being of the women folk."

"The onus is now on  men and women of Ogun West Senatorial  District, to encourage and embrace the message of NILOWV. 

"NILOWV wants everyone to participate in the ongoing constitutional amendments in order to get permanent seats for women. This is noble and I am categorically stating for posterity that it is a move in the right direction. Let us move for this change now while we have the chance to do so."

Ogun state Chairperson of League Of Women Voters Of Nigeria ( NILOWV), Mrs. Elizabeth Egbewemi, who led the team to Ogun West Senatorial District, submitted that the ongoing constitutional reforms in the country propelled the NGO to embark on the tour of sensitization.

She said "NILOWV is on the move across the country to ensure that the abysmal figure showing women's participation in politics improves notably."

She added that the group is aiming to use the ongoing constitutional amendments process to secure permanent seats for women in the National Assemblies and States Houses of Assembly.

Reacting, the Chairperson of Yewa South Local Government, Pastor (Mrs.) Ogunsola, assured the group that women in the local government area will rise to the occasion.

She emphasized that the Local  Government's women are more than ready to join their counterparts in the country to stake a claim for the women folks in Nigeria's political spectrum.

A large number of women turned out for the event and pledged their support for NILOWV.
