The need for training and retraining of staff as an essential aspect of manpower development and capacity building to ensure effective service delivery in the Local Governments, saddled with the provision of essential services to improve the lives of the people at the grassroot has once again been brought to the fore at two days orientation training workshop, organized by the Management Of Ewekoro Local Government for its staffers on HAPSS 02 , held at the Local Government Conference Room, Itori.
While declaring open the highly interactive training program, the Executive Chairman, Ewekoro Local Government, Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa, stated that workshop was seen as very important and it would be of immense benefits to the staff at the lower cadre to know and expose them to the nitty gritty of their duties which will further enhance their productivity.
His words: " This training workshop is set to acquaint you with the rules and regulations which will guide you while performing your duties and this in turn will lead to increase in your productivity"
Hon Adesina, disclosed that the Acting Head Of Local Government Administration, brought it to his notice that the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission has directed that all Local Governments to organize training workshop for all members of staff across all cadres in the junior category and without hesitation, he graciously gave his approval because of the benefits the staff will drive from such training.
The Council helmsman, therefore, charged the participants to pay attention to all the lectures to be delivered by all the resource persons in the course of the the training.
Earlier, the Acting HOLGA, Mr. Anigboro Wole Daniel, welcomed the Executive Chairman and some of the members of the Executive Arm, Directors/HODs as well as the participants to the training workshop, specifically packaged for staffs on HAPSS 02.
Appreciating the Executive Chairman, the Acting HOLGA, lauded Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa for the speedy approval of the workshop.
" Without the Chairman's approval, we can't be here this morning. So we need to always appreciate our Chairman, friend of workers who put workers' welfare in the front burner."
Speaking on the workshop, the astute administrator, stated that the training workshop came at the right time, adding, " This workshop is timely, timely in the sense that majority of you are still on probation and your appointment will soon be confirmed as members of the service ".
While enjoining the participants, Mr.Anigboro urged them to be active and make it an interactive session.
" Nobody is going to give you query, feel free to ask questions.I want you to listen with rapt attention, whatever you learn today, will be a reference point for your future engagement."
He told the participants to consider themselves as being lucky, due to the fact that many graduates are in the labour market, searching for almost non-existing employment.
" Either you are in HAPSS one, or two, you must still consider yourself fortunate. Some of you may be looking at the level of the job as inconsequential but i want to advise you that, " If you are a messenger, messenger well or if you are a cleaner, clean well. Whatever you are doing, do it whole heartedly. I want to assure you that by the time you will be serving for three, four or five years, some of you must have been upgraded to higher level with higher responsibilities."
The seasoned administrator, therefore, urged the participants not to be pessimistic or deterred by their present status but rather be optimistic.
" Some of you can still become Directors, even reach the Pinnacle of your career, if you so much desire. I want to tell you that there are officers who retired as level 16 Officers, that joined service as junior Officers but with sheer determination, they were able to make it to the vey top position before retiring from the service, so there is no limitation, unless you decide to limit yourself,"---he concluded.
In his vote of thanks , Mr.Samson Ademola Ogunkoya, on behalf of other participants, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Chairman for the approval of the training workshop, while, equally thanked the entire management for the rare opportunity to expose them to the rules and regulations in the service.
He assured the management that all what they have learnt at the workshop will be put into practice.
The participants were taken through the lectures with topics that were specifically designed to cater for their needs as public servants in the Local Government Service.
In attendance at the orientation training workshop were: the Executive Chairman, Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa, some members of the Executive Arm, Ag.HOLGA, Directors/HODs, Internal Auditor, Clerk Of the House , and Unit Heads among others.
