REAL MADRID WINS UEFA SUPER CUP FOR A RECORD SIXTH TIME, WHIPS ATALANTA 2-0 AS MBAPPE SCORES ON HIS DEBUT IN LOS BLANCOS'S COLOUR

It was another record-breaking at Warsaw's National Stadium as Real Madrid won this year UEFA Super Cup for a record sixth time with the spanking of Atalanta by two goals to nothing in the highly entertaining final game.

Prior to the encounter, the Los Blancos were level on five with Barcelona and Milan as the teams to have won the Super Cups, La Liga side lifting the trophy in 2002,2014,2016,2017,2022 and now 2024 while losing it on three occasions in 1998, 2000, 2018.

The Carlo Ancelotti men went into the game with the intentions of making history but met a stiff resistance from the Italian side, Atalanta in the early minutes as the encounter was an end to an end action, with the Nigerian star, Ademola Lookman mesmerizing on the wing before the Italian team fizzled out.

Kylian Mbappe had a quiet first half but Vinicius Junior was a thorn in the flesh of Atalanta while Rodrigo struck the bar just at first half stoppage time.

Two minutes of the restart, Thibaut Courtois was called to action but rose to the occasion as he palmed away Mario Pasalic's header.

However, in the 59th minute Federico Valverde broke the deadlock after Vinicius Junior outwitted Berat Djimsiti before squaring for Valverde to tap into an empty net .

Just nine minutes later, Jude Bellingham with a through pass to Kylian Mbappe to finish up with a lift into the roof of the net to seal Madrid's record-breaking sixth UEFA Super Cup triumph.

The goal marked Mbappe first goal in his Real Madrid full debut after his blockbuster move from Paris Saint-Germain.

UEFA Super Cup is an annual football match organised by UEFA and contested by winners of the two main European club competitions: UEFA Champions league and UEFA Europa league.
