The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ogun State Chapter, has applauded the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) for organising a one-day capacity-building programme aimed at strengthening labour-management relations and promoting industrial harmony across the state’s 20 local government areas.
The training, themed “Unionism and Industrial Relations in Ogun State Local Government: Building a Harmonious Labour-Management Relationship for Effective Grassroots Service Delivery,” was held at the Muslim Professionals’ Hall, Leme, Abeokuta.
Speaking at the event, the State President of NULGE, Comrade Adebayo Adefesobi, JP, described the programme as a strategic initiative that would enhance industrial harmony, improve labour-management relations, and boost service delivery at the grassroots level.
According to Adefesobi, the training equipped participants with practical knowledge of effective unionism, dialogue, conflict resolution, collective bargaining, and workplace cooperation — all critical to sustaining industrial peace and increasing productivity.
He commended the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Ms Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, as well as the Commissioners, Permanent Secretary, and management of the Commission for their commitment to the continuous development of both management and labour representatives.
Adefesobi stressed that industrial harmony remains indispensable to good governance and effective grassroots administration.
He reaffirmed that NULGE would continue to partner with the Commission and the Ogun State Government in promoting policies that protect workers’ welfare while ensuring efficient service delivery to the people.
The NULGE State President urged participants to apply the knowledge gained by embracing mutual respect, dialogue, professionalism, and adherence to established industrial relations principles in their various councils.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of the NULGE Ogun State Chapter to maintaining industrial peace and supporting initiatives that foster collaboration between labour and management for the overall development of the local government system.
In attendance were Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGA); Directors/Heads of General Services and Administration (DGSA/HGSA); Clerks of the Legislative Houses in the local governments; members of the State Administrative and Executive Council of NULGE; three branch members of NULGE; resource persons; and former State Presidents of NULGE, including Sanitarian (Comrade) Ayuba Olatunji and Comrade Abiodun Elegbede.
