EWEKORO LG INTENSIFIES CONTINUOUS LEARNING CULTURE WITH SUCCESSFUL MONTH OF MAY STAFF IN-HOUSE TRAINING

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance staff productivity, professionalism, and effective grassroots governance, Ewekoro Local Government on Monday, May 25, 2026, successfully organised its monthly In-House Training Programme for members of staff across all departments of the council.

The capacity-building exercise, designed to promote continuous learning and improve administrative efficiency, featured two major segments — a General Knowledge Session and Departmental Training Sessions — held at the Local Government Secretariat, Itori.

The programme commenced at the Local Government Conference Room with lectures focused on improving administrative and financial management skills among staff.

The first lecture, titled “Abbreviations and Administrative Terms,” was delivered by Mr. Akiode Fatai Ibrahim, Senior Administrative Officer (SAO). The session provided participants with deeper understanding of commonly used official abbreviations, public service terminologies, and administrative expressions necessary for effective communication and documentation in government establishments.

This was followed by a lecture on “Difference Between Revenue Collectors Cash Book and Treasury Cash Book,” presented by Mr. Ojo Fatai, Chief Accounting Officer (CAO). 

The lecture enlightened participants on the distinction between the two accounting records, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and proper financial documentation within the local government system.

Following the general session, departmental lectures were simultaneously conducted to address professional and operational needs specific to each department.

At the Community and Social Development Department, Mr. Akin Oyetoro (SWO) delivered a lecture on “Foster Process or Fostering,” where participants were educated on child care support systems, foster parenting procedures, and the social responsibilities involved in protecting vulnerable children within the society.

In the Works and Housing Department, Engr. Ekundayo Ayodeji (Engineer Grade I) handled the topic “Basic Domestic Electrical Wiring.” The lecture exposed participants to the fundamentals of electrical installation, safety precautions, and basic wiring techniques commonly applicable in residential buildings.

The Agriculture and Natural Resources Department featured a lecture on “Soil Improvement and Management,” delivered by Mr. Ogunmuyiwa Kayode, Head of Department. 

The session highlighted modern soil management practices, soil fertility improvement methods, and sustainable agricultural techniques aimed at increasing agricultural productivity.

At the Education, Information and Sports Department, Mr. Olopade Shakiru, Head of Department, presented a lecture on “Community Mobilization Through Information and Education Programme.” 

The lecture stressed the importance of public enlightenment, grassroots sensitisation, and effective communication strategies in mobilising communities for active participation in government programmes and developmental initiatives.

Similarly, the Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation Department received a lecture on “Food Hygiene and Safety,” facilitated by Mrs. Amosu O.A (PEHO). The lecture focused on proper food handling, cleanliness, disease prevention, and environmental health practices necessary for safeguarding public health.

At the Planning, Research and Statistics Department, Mr. Taiwo Temidayo (Planning Officer) delivered a lecture on “Preparation of Budget in Conformity with IPSAS.” 

Participants were enlightened on budgeting standards in line with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), aimed at promoting accountability, transparency, and proper financial planning in public administration.

Speaking , the Acting Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Ige Samuel emphasized the importance of the monthly in-house training programme, noting that the exercise is a mandatory professional development initiative directive of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission for all categories of staff in the local government service.

He urged participants to take the training seriously and maximally utilize the the knowledge acquired to improve productivity, efficiency and overall service delivery in their respective departments.

Mr. Ige further assured staff of Management's commitment to providing a more conducive and comfortable environment for subsequent exercises. 

The astute administrator appreciated the Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government for his continued support towards staff development and institutional growth through regular training programmes.

He also commended all resource persons for their insightful presentations and professional delivery, 

while specially appreciating the Coordinator of the Monthly In-House Training, Mr. Fatai Akiode, for the successful organisation and seamless coordination of the programme.

In his remarks after the training,the Director of Information and one of the facilitators, Mr. Olopade Shakiru, described the monthly in-house training as a strategic platform for enhancing staff competence, efficiency, and quality service delivery at the grassroots level.

The training concluded with a call on participants to effectively apply the knowledge and experience gained towards improved performance and efficient discharge of their official responsibilities, in line with the developmental goals of Ewekoro Local Government.
