In a move aimed at making the Yuletide season memorable and rewarding, the Executive Chairman of Ogun Waterside Local Government, Hon. Odunnoiki Adetoye AbdulGaniyu, has approved the payment of Christmas and New Year bonuses to both political office holders and career officers of the council.
The Chairman disclosed this while addressing journalists on New Year’s Eve in Abigi, describing the gesture as a show of appreciation for the unalloyed loyalty, commitment, and unwavering support received from staff throughout the outgoing year.
"According to him, the bonus payment was designed not only to ease the financial burden of the festive season but also to boost morale and reinforce a culture of dedication and productivity within the local government workforce.
Hon. Odunnoiki also used the occasion to call on residents of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area to celebrate responsibly, emphasizing the importance of unity, love, peace, and communal harmony during the festive period.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and local authorities, and prioritize safety before, during, and after the celebrations.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to development, the Chairman assured residents of renewed efforts toward improving infrastructure, public services, and the overall well-being of people across the local government area in the coming year and beyond.
“As we commemorate this blessed season, let us unite in love, peace, harmony, and security. Together, we can build a safer and more prosperous society,” he said.
He further appealed for continued cooperation from residents, stressing that his administration is determined to deliver dividends of democracy to every nook and cranny of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, without bias or restriction.
The Chairman concluded with prayers that the spirit of Christmas and the New Year would inspire hope, love, togetherness, and sustainable progress across the council area, while wishing residents a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year 2026.
Earlier in his remarks, the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mr. Odusoga Olalekan Monsuru, commended the Chairman for his fatherly leadership style and consistent concern for the welfare of staff and residents alike.
He described Hon. Odunnoiki as a worker-friendly administrator, noting that his leadership approach and management of council affairs are worthy of emulation.
Mr. Odusoga charged staff members to reciprocate the Chairman’s goodwill in the New Year by demonstrating greater commitment through regular attendance, punctuality, diligence, and professionalism, while avoiding practices capable of hindering the progress of the local government.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Abayomi Adefowora, expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman for his continued love and concern for staff welfare, noting that the bonuses were provided despite limited financial resources.
He also applauded the HOLGA for his administrative competence throughout the process and urged workers to see the New Year bonus as a call to greater responsibility, reminding them that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”
