In a remarkable display of community-driven development, the people of Ewekoro have once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to education through the successful inauguration of the first-ever set of prefects at Ewekoro Community Grammar School — a milestone event in the school’s growing history.
The self-help institution, proudly built and sustained by the collective efforts of the Ewekoro community and their partners, held the colourful ceremony to celebrate leadership, discipline, and unity among its students.
Declaring the event open, the Chairman of the School Management Committee, Mr. Bola Awesu, expressed deep gratitude to the Baale, community members, and Lafarge for their continuous support towards the school’s growth. He also appreciated parents for their cooperation and encouragement, noting that the inauguration marks an intentional step towards grooming future leaders.
" This initiative is aimed at training our young ones to manage people and resources effectively - right from the onset,"-- Awesu said.
Mrs. Tolulope Adeleye, one of the teachers, described the occasion as “a significant milestone in the history of the school.” According to her, the ceremony symbolizes the trust and confidence the school community has placed in these exceptional students. She congratulated the newly inaugurated prefects for their dedication, academic excellence, and exemplary conduct, urging other students to show them support and respect.
Representing the parents, Prophet Peter Adejare and Mrs. Peter Jimi charged the new prefects to see leadership as service, advising them to be humble, accommodating, and disciplined. They emphasized that as the pioneer prefects, they are laying the foundation for future leaders, and must not misuse the opportunity.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated prefects, Senior Boy, Abdul Rasheed Fawaz, and Senior Girl, Akanni Zainab, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the school management, teachers, and fellow students.
" This honour is not ours alone, it belongs to every student who believes in hard work, discipline and good character, " they said, promising to lead with respect, honesty and dedication in making Ewekoro Community Grammar School greater.
Mr. Quadri Awesu later read out the rule regulations guiding the new prefects, reminding them of the responsibility that comes with leadership.
The event was rounded off with cultural performances and dances by the students, adding colour and excitement to the historic occasion.
The inauguration, beyond its immediate significance, highlights the enduring spirit of self-help and communal cooperation that birthed Ewekoro Community Grammar School — a clear message to government and stakeholders on the community’s readiness for partnership and formal takeover to ensure sustainable growth and educational excellence.
